My production company, Creative Protest Films, and I are in the midst of principal photography for our first feature documentary!
It’s called Started From Scratch: The History Of Atlanta’s Pioneer DJs. In short, it is, as the title says, an account of the musical and cultural beginnings of hip-hop in Atlanta, told from the perspectives of many of Atlanta’s pioneer DJs. Among other things, many of our cast members went on to work with and produce huge hits for huge stars like T.I., Kanye West, Outkast, A Tribe Called Quest, and Ludacris. What they all have in common is that they started their careers in the tight-knit Atlanta hip-hop community in the 80s + 90s.
Started From Scratch is directed by me, Khylen Steward, and co-produced by my partner/sound supervisor, French Spencer.
